Save the date for Wednesday, March 12, for our annual spring fundraiser! This year’s event is a luncheon featuring guest speaker Laura Bilodeau Overdeck, a Westfield High School graduate. She will talk about STEM education (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and the factors that lead kids – and adults – to fear math. She will also talk about Bedtime Math, her movement to make math truly recreational. “My love of math and science—and a growing awareness that math can be playful and approachable for kids—grew out of the wonderful experiences I had in the Westfield Schools,” she said, founding Bedtime Math, the national nonprofit that seeks to use bedtime, summer vacation, and after-school time as crucial moments to get kids to love math just as they love dessert or their favorite bedtime story. Her second book, Bedtime Math: This Time It’s Personal, which will be released the week of our luncheon, will be available for sale and personalization thanks to the assistance of the Town Book Store. Bedtime Math sells for $14.99. Bedtime Math 2 sells for $15.99. You can reserve copies of either book by sending an email to Pat Colbert at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Feb. 17. We will also have some exciting basket raffles – including Mets tickets and wine, so please bring your checkbooks!!
